
What is Carer Support Service?
SSCSS is a not for profit organisation that is funded by DADHC in which
aims to improve the quality of life of unpaid carers who reside in the
Sutherland Shire by supporting them in their role in caring for a
relative or friend who is frail/aged has dementia or has a disability.
Services offered by SSCSS:
- Telephone & face to face support
- Carer Support Groups
- Informal Counselling
- Training and information sessions
- Advocacy
- Information and referral
Support Groups
SSCSS runs several support groups, which aim to provide support,
information, networking with other likeminded carers. The support groups
which are run include:
- General carer/social
- Carers of people with Dementia
- Carers for parents of children with a Disability
- Greek Speaking Carers
- Cantonese Speaking Carers
- Mandarin Speaking Carers
- Assistance to Former Carers Support Group
What area does SSCSS cover?
Sutherland Shire Local Government Area.
Carers Corner Newsletter
SSCSS produces a quarterly carer newsletter which provides HACC service
& resources information and details outlining our support groups and
quest speakers. It also provides general information on upcoming events
that may be of interest to carers. The Carers Corner allows carers to
"come-and-go" when required whilst still feeling confident that SSCSS is
available when they require support. Please refer to the carers corner to download the newsletter.
Carer Resource Library
SSCSS has a collection of resources, which carers may borrow for a
maximum period of four weeks. Where possible resources will be available
for loan at morning teas and support group meetings. This library is
continually updated and expanded in response to carer requests to
organise carers week events in Sutherland Shire.
Carers Week
SSCSS facilitates the Sutherland Shire Carers Week Working Party.

- Stapleton Avenue Comunity Centre is a fully accessable building.
- There is a small amount of 2 hour parking out the front.
- It is approximatly a five minute walk from the Sutherland train station.
Operating times:
SSCSS operates 9-4pm Monday to Friday, 48 weeks per year.
